A WAY OF SEEING
The past,
made present.
Born in 1973 in Khorramshahr, Iran, Amir Abbas Kashef followed an unconventional path into architecture and design. Rather than pursuing a traditional academic route, he began working with his hands at an early age, opening a small workshop in 1991 dedicated to blacksmithing, metalwork, and traditional Iranian craftsmanship. This period became the foundation of his creative philosophy and shaped his lifelong relationship with materials, structure, and form.
For more than a decade, Kashef focused on designing and producing handmade household objects — including furniture, lighting, and interior pieces — often working directly with raw or repurposed materials. Through this process, he developed a strong belief in the emotional and functional value of objects that carry history, texture, and traces of human use.
His transition into architecture emerged naturally from this hands-on experience. Today, Kashef is recognized for his architectural and interior projects that combine simplicity, authenticity, and deep material awareness. His work often resists unnecessary ornamentation and commercial trends, instead emphasizing clarity, craftsmanship, and honest design solutions.
What makes Amir Abbas Kashef especially relevant to ArtCycle is the philosophy underlying his practice: the idea that value can be rediscovered through making, repairing, reshaping, and reimagining. His journey from crafting furniture in a small workshop to developing large-scale architectural projects reflects a continuous dialogue between material, memory, and transformation.
