A WAY OF SEEING

The past,
made present.

Andreas Scheiger lives and works in Vienna, Austria, where his lifelong passion for drawing, handicraft, and material experimentation has shaped a unique artistic voice. Early in his creative journey he worked as an illustrator and later as a graphic designer and art director, developing a foundation in both visual communication and hands-on making that continues to influence his work.

Scheiger’s work celebrates material life and transformation. He believes that “interesting visual impacts sleep in every object” — whether that object is an old bicycle saddle, corrugated cardboard, wood leftovers, or stray hardware — and treats such materials as starting points for storytelling through design.

His most recognized project, Upcycle Fetish, exemplifies this approach: Scheiger collects used bicycle parts like saddles, handlebars, and stems from flea markets, scrap dealers, and workshops, then repurposes them into functional wall hangers and sculptural pieces. These works are at once a playful homage to classic shapes like hunting trophies and a creative reinterpretation of waste as beauty and utility.

In addition to his upcycled hangers, Scheiger’s broader practice engages with typography and visual form through projects like his “Evolution of Type” series, which explores letters as organic entities rooted in history and craft.
