Based in the Netherlands, Saskia Louise is the founder and creative force behind By Studio Louise, a studio dedicated to giving forgotten furniture a vibrant second life. Her approach to design is deeply rooted in the belief that objects should be valued for their form, material, and potential — not simply replaced when they no longer fit current trends.

From 2010 to 2018, Saskia studied at the Hout- en Meubileringscollege in Amsterdam, where she developed an in-depth understanding of furniture construction, craftsmanship, upholstery, and materials. While working on commissioned furniture projects, she realized she was searching for a more personal and expressive creative direction — one that combined sustainability with bold visual storytelling.

That turning point came after moving to Amsterdam at the age of 25, where she was struck by the enormous amount of discarded furniture left on the streets. To her, these were not waste objects, but materials full of untapped potential. This experience became the foundation of her upcycling journey and eventually led to the creation of By Studio Louise.

Through her work, Saskia transforms “trash into treasure,” creating colorful and unique furniture pieces that challenge the idea of disposability. Every object she restores carries traces of its past while being reimagined for a new future. Her work celebrates creativity, individuality, and the beauty of seeing things from a different perspective.
