Paris Design Week 2026
Is Betting on Reuse

2 min read · Circular Economy Update

Paris Design Week runs September 10 to 19, 2026, and this year its biggest venues aren't treating sustainability as a side theme — they're building around it.

At La Caserne des Minimes, a free exhibition is dedicated entirely to textile upcycling. The Jardin des Métiers d'Art et du Design at Bastille is running a pop-up built around craftsmanship and DIY. Lafayette Anticipations has a materials-and-techniques exhibition exploring the same ground. And at Place de la Bastille, an installation called "The Reprise of the Bastille" wraps the July Column in 196 flags made entirely from used clothing.

How to extend a material's life, cut down on waste, or prioritise locally available resources - without giving up on design quality.

This isn't a recycling showcase. It's one of Europe's most influential design weeks treating reuse as a legitimate design discipline, ambitious enough to headline flagship venues, not a compromise dressed up as a virtue.

That's the same bet ArtCycle is making in Rotterdam, at a smaller scale: transformation isn't a lesser version of buying new, it's a different — and often better — creative outcome. Seeing that argument made at Bastille, in flags built from other people's old clothes, is a good reminder that this isn't a niche conviction. It's where design is actually heading.

Rotterdam Doesn't Need to Wait

You don't need a spot at Paris Design Week to see what reuse can become. Upload an item and see what a local artist proposes, or explore our artist profiles to see who's already doing this work.
