A Workshop by Lex Pott in Rotterdam

Inspiring Circular Design Through Paper & Cardboard

At ArtCycle, we believe that waste is not the end of a product's story—it is often the beginning of a new creative journey. That is why we are excited to highlight the upcoming workshop "Circulaire Residentie: Papier & Karton" led by renowned Rotterdam designer Lex Pott during Rotterdam Architectuur Maand 2026.

This unique two-day workshop invites participants to explore the creative potential of paper and cardboard waste streams collected in Rotterdam. Rather than focusing solely on recycling, the workshop encourages participants to discover the beauty, material qualities, and transformative possibilities of these everyday materials.

Participants will work hands-on with discarded paper and cardboard, experimenting with new forms, functions, and artistic expressions. The resulting works will be exhibited during Rotterdam Architectuur Maand in the M4H innovation district, one of the city's leading hubs for circular innovation.

The workshop aligns closely with ArtCycle's mission of empowering people to transform unwanted materials into valuable, creative, and sustainable products. By encouraging material exploration, creative reuse, and design thinking, initiatives like this demonstrate how circular design can inspire both environmental impact and artistic innovation.

About Lex Pott

Lex Pott is a Rotterdam-based designer known for his raw and intuitive approach to materials. His work focuses on revealing the essence of materials such as wood, stone, and metal rather than concealing them behind layers of processing. His designs have been created for internationally recognized brands including IKEA, HAY, Vitra, HEMA, and &Tradition.

Why This Matters

Rotterdam aims to become a fully circular city by 2050, and initiatives such as the Circulaire Residentie provide space for experimentation, innovation, and collaboration between designers, makers, and citizens. Through creative engagement with local material streams, participants contribute to a broader vision of a circular economy where resources are continuously reimagined and reused.
